OH, BABY! PREGNANCY AND OUR SERVICES

Pregnancy and Sauna

If you’ve endured the final months of pregnancy, you remember it well: the swollen ankles, aching back and joints, nights of fitful sleep, and those sweet little toes jabbing into your rib cage - not to mention hormonal ups and downs, which can lead to anxiety.

Floating and Infrared Saunas are effective therapies during and post-pregnancy. Here’s how:

FLOATING AND PREGNANCY

Floating is a pregnant woman’s best friend for many reasons! Here’s just a few:

  1. Floating alleviates pain and discomfort. The 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt enables you to float weightlessly and in perfect alignment above the water, taking the burden off those aching joints and muscles. Your body is already working hard at growing a human; give it a little break and some TLC!

  2. Magnesium is a powerhouse mineral during pregnancy. Did you know that magnesium can actually deter pre-term labor? This is why many doctors add it to IV bags for moms at the hospital who are faced with pre-term labor. Due to the concentrated salt content in the float pod, your body’s largest organ - the skin - is able to absorb all those minerals to help keep baby exactly where he or she should be until it’s time for delivery.

  3. Floating is an incredible bonding experience for mom and baby. When you float, you essentially are recreating the experience of being in the womb, which is why when we shut the tank lid and turn off the lights and music, we call it going “Baby in the Womb.” Many moms in their last trimester tell us that floating gives them an opportunity to stretch out, allowing their baby more room to move around and bond with them.

  4. Floating lowers anxiety and cortisol levels. According to the CDC, 1 in 9 women experience postpartum depression, and many expectant mothers struggle with anxiety and hormonal fluctuations, and understandably so. Your body is going through a tremendous amount of change in a relatively short period of time! Floating gives you the chance to slow down, rest, breathe, and shed some of the emotional burden.

  5. Floating improves quality of sleep. Magnesium sulfate, whether you’re pregnant or not, enables our bodies to sleep soundly, and as any expectant mama knows, that precious time is few and far between. Come in to float during one of our evening sessions and give yourself not just a restorative experience but the continued gift of sleep once you get home.

POSTPARTUM MOMS AND INFRARED SAUNA

You’ve done all the hard work and made it to delivery! Now it’s time to help your body recover from all the changes it went through over the past ten months. According to the American Pregnancy Association, a woman's body produces 50 percent more blood and body fluids during pregnancy to support the developing baby, and the excess water can only be expelled through sweat and urination. The infrared sauna is a great tool to help new mothers detox, de-stress, and tackle many postpartum issues.

It helps shed excess water weight and bloating. Many new moms experience extreme swelling in their hands and feet in the weeks following delivery. The infrared sauna helps shed that water weight, giving you a much more comfortable quality off life. Above is a picture of owner Candice’s foot two days after delivering her daughter, Piper. She immediately started using the infrared sauna every day, and within a week she had shed 25 pounds of water weight! Remember to drink ample amounts of water before, during and after your session. Our bodies will shed more water the better hydrated we are. We also recommend adding a Hydrate electrolyte pack for maximum hydration.

  1. Infrared Saunas are detoxifying. The sauna is a great way to eliminate toxins and chemicals from your body, including medicine from epidurals, spinal blocks, and narcotics to help get you through a tough delivery. Use our PT tools to work out sore legs and joints.

  2. Infrared Saunas boost metabolism. Because infrared heat warms you from within, your circulation, and subsequently your metabolism, increases. It is believed that you can burn an estimated 600 calories in one session, making it ideal for new moms looking to shed pregnancy pounds and return to their pre-pregnancy weight. If this is your goal, we highly recommend stringing multiple sauna sessions together to reap the most benefits.

  3. Infrared Saunas reduce joint pain. Chances are strong, your back and joints are still aching either from the precious baby you’ve been carrying or from being hunched over from nursing. Infrared therapy helps reduce inflammation and pain.

  4. Infrared Saunas give you a much-needed Mommy time-out. While pregnancy is hard work, the real business starts once baby arrives. New moms suffer from exhaustion, fatigue, hormonal fluctuations, and truthfully - the feeling of always being needed. And while those days soaking up the sweet baby bliss are wonderful, every new mother needs some time to herself so she can give back and be the best she can for her family. Carving out a 40-minute sauna session is a wonderful way to give yourself that needed personal time - whether you want to binge on your favorite Netflix show, meditate using the Calm app, or let’s be honest, sit in solitude and silence.

To give yourself an extra dose of pampering, grab one of our organic sheet masks or eye patches to help stave off those dark circles from middle-of-the-night feedings!

To be clear, the infrared sauna IS NOT for expectant mothers, as it can raise your core body temperature to a level unsafe for babies in the womb. But once baby is here, the sauna is heated and ready for you!

It’s hard to give to others when our own cups are empty, and this is a great chance to refill that cup. Our sauna and float packages make a great gift for oneself or the new mom in your life. Come see how our floats and saunas can be a game-changer for you during this special time!
